Open the full-size chart in a new tab25,000+ cold calls. Over $1M in recurring revenue. Four SaaS companies.
Creating opportunities is charmingly inconsistent. Be ready when success shows up, knowing you may be digging where it isn't. It's gold prospecting: find the first color before the next prospector does.
I read the tea leaves: 6sense intent data, social media, website data, press releases, job postings. They show what a company cares about and whether I can truly help. Intent data also shows what buyers search around their problem, because nobody lands on your site and clicks "talk to sales" on their own.
Patience pays. A cannabis brand ignored 10 cold emails over 10 months. Each added something new, built on insights from dozens of calls with their team. When the timing was right, they became a Sprout Social customer.

My favorite part of sales is interrupting someone's day with something that makes it simpler and better. Full stop. Groove was my first SaaS sales job because it automated the Salesforce logging I spent hours on weekly.
Groove 115% of quota. Sprout Social 108%. Storyblocks first close at day 45. SparkPlug: a churned customer won back in three states.
Build this sequence with your own AI
Copy this prompt into the AI you already use. It checks which sales tools it can reach (CRM, Apollo, Outreach, Salesloft and others), asks what it is missing, then drafts the sequence. It never sends anything.

You are helping me set up a 12-day cold outbound sequence (a "cadence") for one type of prospect. Work in the tools I already use where you can. Do not send anything. STEP 1: CHECK YOUR ACCESS Before anything else, tell me in one short list what you can actually reach right now. Look for: - CRM: Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics, Pipedrive, or similar - Sales engagement or enablement: Apollo, Outreach, Salesloft, Groove, HubSpot Sequences, or similar - Data and intent: 6sense, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, or similar - Email, calendar, and docs If you can reach none of these, say so plainly and go to Step 3. Do not guess or pretend. STEP 2: ASK ME BEFORE YOU BUILD Ask only what you do not already know. Keep it to one short list: 1. Who is the ideal customer, and what is the one pain I lead with? 2. What do I sell, and what is my "moat" asset (a report, benchmark, free tool, or customer proof)? 3. My name, title, and company, and which tool you should build in. 4. My time zone, and whether to use business days. STEP 3: THE SEQUENCE Build this cadence. Number each call and email so we can refer to them. - Day 1: LinkedIn connection request (no note needed). Send Email 1, built around one pain. Research the account. Log notes in the CRM. - Day 2: Call 1. No voicemail. - Day 3: Email 2. A bump with added value. Personalize it. Ideally include a report from my moat. - Day 4: Call 2, and leave a voicemail. View their LinkedIn profile and comment on a company post. - Day 6: LinkedIn message. A different channel from email and calls. - Day 7: Call 3 with a voicemail saying a value email on a different pain is coming. Email 3 in a new thread, subject line "guy who just called". - Day 10: Call 4. - Day 12: Call 5 (last call, voicemail: sorry for blowing you up, holding off now). Email 4, the break-up email, which leaves the door open to share updates. Then move the contact to my ICP-based nurture sequence. Log notes in the CRM. For every email and voicemail, write the draft with merge fields I can paste (first name, company, pain, moat asset). STEP 4: CREATE IT - If a connected tool lets you create a sequence or tasks, create it as a DRAFT or inactive. Do not enroll anyone. - If you can only read, or have no tool, give me everything paste-ready: one table with day, channel, task, subject, and body, plus the field names to map. - Tell me exactly what you created or would create. STEP 5: STOP AND SHOW ME Show me the result and wait for my OK before anything goes live. RULES - Draft only. Never send a message, enroll a contact, change a record, or turn anything on without my clear OK. - Use only facts I give you or facts you can see in my approved systems. If you are missing a fact, ask. Do not invent names, numbers, quotes, or results. - Keep sensitive customer data inside tools my company has approved. If you are not sure a tool is approved, ask me first. - Plain, short, human writing. One idea per message. No fake urgency, no tricks.
